Brenda Engel

Brenda S. Engel began her professional career as an elementary school art teacher. She has lectured and given workshops on children's art in both the U.S.A. and England. Her writings on the subject include a paperback published by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Considering Children's Art; Why and How to Value their Works. Engel is the editor of a book, currently on the market - Holding Values: What We Mean by Progressive Education (Heinemann, April, 2005) which contains an article on a young child's standards for her own artwork, "Miriam's Standards."

Engel has been a lifelong watercolorist, finding time to paint in spaces between professional demands. She has exhibited her work in a variety of settings in Cambridge. Since retiring after twenty years from the faculty of Lesley University, she has been able to give more time to art though she continues to work with children and public schools as a volunteer.
