Janet Malenfant

In this recent body of work I have been focusing on the actual process of building layers and color. I approach every painting as an experiment ... there are no specific designs or goals that I have when starting them. The result is a collection of paintings that are often up to 20 layers of paint and medium. Scraping, sanding, adding medium or rubbing away partially dried paint until the surface reveals itself. Many are finished with a layer of galkyd over part of the finished surface to highlight parts of the painting, creating a gem-like glossy finish to capture and reflect light.

My work has been shown locally through early NoCa Open Studios and in the Cambridgeport Open Studios at my former 32R Essex Street Studio. I currently work out of a home studio located at 16 Blake Street near Porter Square.
