Janet MalenfantNew for 2009: more small box paintings! In addition to my nature inspired box paintings, I have a series called ‘modbox’, inspired by mid-century modern surfaces and colors. I approach every painting as an experiment ... there are no specific designs or goals when starting them. I often scrape, sand, or rub away partially dried paint until the surface reveals itself. Many are finished with a layer of galkyd over the finished surface to highlight parts of the painting, creating a gem-like glossy finish to capture and reflect light. Also new this spring are unique photo collage portrait paintings. I take a photograph, then enlarge parts of it, put it together on masonite and paint over the collaged image. My work appeared on the Cambridge Center of Adult Education Fall 2008 cover and has been shown locally through NoCa Open Studios and in the Cambridgeport Open Studios at my former 32R Essex Street Studio. I currently work out of a home studio located at 16 Blake Street near Porter Square. For more information, contact Janet Malenfant: badchild@comcast.net http://janetmalenfant.blogspot.com |
