Joan Green
Visual Artist:
My works on paper include watercolor, collage and drawing. I do much of my painting on the South coast of Jamaica, where the birds, animals, vegetation, sky, sea and people explode with life and color. Since 2005, I have been painting and drawing dancers, a logical development since my career as an artist has been as a Modern Dancer and choreographer. In June 2007, I presented a solo show of images of dancers at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center (CMAC). Dancers have continued to tumble and leap onto my paper; I have produced a whole new crop since the exhibit. Though I have been a painter all my life, I have only recently given it real time and energy. Perhaps for this reason I am in the middle of a creative explosion. I try to get out of the way.
Dancer:
I am a modern dancer, choreographer and teacher, currently performing with the Elders Ensemble of Prometheus Dance Company. In June 2007, I presented a concert of my choreography at CMAC, and will collaborate on another concert, Three here Now, on May 31 and June 1, 2008 at the Dance Complex, Cambridge (see Events). I co-founded and co-directed Back Porch Dance Company, an interracial and intergenerational company of women that performed throughout New England from1985 through 2001.
